At BLACKBOX, every detail matters, even those that no one sees.
Each day, in our salons, kilos of hair are cut. For a long time, in the industry, they were considered as simple waste, with no real value, with no reflection on their impact.
We decided to see it differently, not as an end, but as a starting point.
A real approach, rooted in our salons
Through our collaboration with CAPILLUM, the first recycling and hair valorization system, we chose to transform a forgotten material into a useful resource.
This partnership, initiated in 2021 with Younes Rkiba, CEO of BLACKBOX, is part of a clear vision: to integrate responsible logic at the heart of our business. Hair is collected, sorted, then integrated into a transformation chain that gives it a second life.
It's not a one-time operation, it's a system.
A material with unique properties
Hair possesses natural properties that are still largely underutilized.
Thanks to CAPILLUM's work, it becomes a genuine ecological tool capable of addressing concrete issues.
Today, recovered hair notably allows:
– depolluting water and soil through solutions capable of absorbing up to 26 times their weight in hydrocarbons
– contributing to reforestation and agriculture through mulching and natural fertilizer solutions
– feeding research and innovation, particularly in the textile sector
What was invisible becomes useful, what was discarded now takes on added value.
From haircut to innovation: a project followed on a national scale
This change in perspective now goes beyond the barbering field.
CAPPILLUM has developed an unprecedented project: the first down jacket designed from recycled hair. A project followed for nearly a year by the teams of TF1, in the Grands Reportages program.
From hair collection in the salon to its transformation into insulating material, each step was documented, highlighting a complete, concrete and innovative process.
BLACKBOX accompanied this moment at the Made In France 2025 exhibition, illustrating its expertise through a live demonstration at the booth on a voluntary basis.
This moment was not trivial.
It symbolized the meeting of two worlds: that of grooming and that of responsible innovation.
